Sausage, Onion and Garlic Skillet Pizza

What a perfect end of the week supper served with a nice fresh salad.

  • ½ lb. sweet loose Italian sausage
  • 3 T olive oil
  • ½ lb. pizza dough, at room temperature
  • ½ c marinara sauce
  • 1 c mozzarella, shredded
  • ½ medium onion, sliced
  • 1 garlic clove, sliced
  • parmesan cheese
  • fresh basil

Preheat the oven to 475° degrees.

Line a dish with paper towel and set aside.

Place sausage a 10” cast-iron skillet over medium heat, cook until browned and remove to prepared dish.  Remove the skillet from heat.

Add the olive oil to the skillet and gently place the pizza dough in the skillet.  With your fingertips, gently work it to the edges.  Drizzle the dough with a little olive oil and place the skillet over medium-low heat to brown the bottom of the crust, about 3 minutes.   Spread the marinara over the dough, then the mozzarella, onion and garlic. Remove from heat and place the skillet in the oven and bake until the crust is deep golden brown and the cheese is bubbly, about fifteen minutes.   Remove from oven and sprinkle with parmesan cheese and fresh basil.
