Banana Chocolate Chip Bread

This banana bread has found its way into our Thanksgiving dessert table.   It started out as an accompaniment to our gift bags when visiting friends and family during the holidays.  Now it is a staple, devoured by nieces and nephews alike.

  • 1 stick of butter
  • 1 c sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 ½ c flour
  • 1 t baking soda
  • 1 t salt
  • 2 medium bananas mashed
  • ½ c sour cream
  • 1 t vanilla
  • ½ c chocolate chips

Grease a  9” X 5” loaf pan, line with wax paper (leaving a ½ inch above pan on both sides) and grease the wax paper.   The lining step could be skipped, however, it will ensure easy removal from the pan.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

In a small bowl, sift the flour, baking soda and salt and set aside.

In a medium bowl, beat the butter, sugar and eggs until smooth.  Slowly incorporate the dry ingredients until completely mixed in.  Add the bananas, sour cream and vanilla.  Mix well and stir add the chocolate chips.

Pour into prepared loaf pan and bake for an hour or until a wooden toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.

Cool for 15 minutes , turn the bread onto a baking rack and slowly remove the wax paper.  Flip back over so bottom of the bread is on the baking rack.
