Peach Cobbler

Our local orchard has peach picking in late August and in September.  There are a couple of different varieties and there is something satisfying about picking your own.  Our grandmother made a wonderful peach pie.  If I can find her recipe, I'll post it.

  • 4 c peaches, peeled and sliced
  • 2 c sugar
  • ½ c water
  • 8 T butter
  • 1 ½ c self rising flour
  • 1 c milk
  • 1 T cinnamon and ½ c sugar whisked together

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Place peaches, 1 cup sugar, and water in a large pan, mix and bring to a boil.  Lower heat and simmer for ten minutes.     Remove from the heat and set aside.

Put the butter in a 3-quart baking dish and place in oven to melt.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the remaining 1 cup sugar and flour.  Slowly stir in the milk.   Then place this mixture over melted butter. Do not stir.

Place the peach mixture on top and then slowly pour in the syrup.   Sprinkle with cinnamon mixture and bake for half an hour or until golden.

Serve hot with a heaping scoop of vanilla ice cream.
