Apple Crumb Pie with Brown Sugar Spice Crust
Get double the pleasure from this apple crumb pie with spices in the crust too.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper
and set a side.
Place the brown sugar, flour, cinnamon,
nutmeg and cardamom in a medium bowl and whisk together. Cut in butter with
pastry blender until mixture becomes crumbs. Distribute a third of the mixture over bottom
of pie crust. Place apples over mixture
in pie crust and then place the remaining mixture over apples. Place pie on prepared baking sheet.
Bake for one hour or until apples bubble
and streusel is golden brown. Cool on wire rack.
- 1 c brown sugar, packed
- ½ c flour
- 3 ½ t cinnamon
- ½ t nutmeg
- ¼ t cardamom
- 1/3 cup cold butter
- 1 unbaked homemade pie crust
- 8 c apples, peeled and sliced thin
